Girl's Night (Mama & Sarah!)

A girl's night should always include pedicures

Tonight was my first girl's night with Sarah. Jason has always been good about taking Patrick out for boy's night and taking Sarah out for date night. We knew that it is important for the kids to get special Daddy time. I guess I just haven't been able to devote much one on one time with them as well. Especially Sarah since I was pregnant with Abby and then with Abby's illness...
Anyway, Sarah and I had a great time! I actually did our pedicure at home. Then we went & got our hair cut. Then we went to the Galleria. Sarah is a girly girl for sure. She loves the mall. We rode the carousel, got her some new flip flops for spring, new PJ's, and then we had Chick-Fil-A and ice cream. She was tired & ready to come home by 6:30pm. Me, too! This paints a much different picture of my girl's night out than one 10 years ago! :) Sarah is so special and I hope to continue girl's night more often.

Handmade scarves & hats

My talented Aunt Billie made all the children scarves & hats for Christmas. Are they adorable or what??? They have remained a hit long after Christmas. Abby especially likes to wear hers around the house & even tries to share hers with Sadie.

Field trip to the Post Office

Patrick had a field trip Friday to the Meadowbrook Post Office for a tour. My Mom came over and kept the girls, so I had the pleasure of taking Patrick all by myself. I had a great time. Most importantly because quality time alone with Patrick (or Sarah) is so rare that I cherish it. Also because it was just plain interesting to get a look behind the scenes at the post office. I am even more amazed than ever that we can put a piece of mail in our mailbox at home and within a day or two it can end up Grandmama's mailbox in another city! Our homeschool group leader, Kristy, rocks for planning all these wonderful events for us. I am so thankful for her influence and the influence of so many other great homeschooling Moms to guide me this first year.

Patrick lost his first tooth

I can't believe my baby has lost his first tooth. Patrick has wanted to lose a tooth for soooo long! It was finally really loose yesterday and we thought it would come out then. We tried pulling it and it was just hanging by a thread. This morning at breakfast he was so uncomfortable he couldn't even eat milk and a doughnut. Luckily Daddy came to the rescue and got it out for him. Patrick is so excited and can't wait to show everyone. He has a basketball game today and all the grandparents & his uncle, aunt & cousins are coming. So he will get to show off that pretty little gap. He is looking forward to what the tooth fairy is going to bring...

Abby's Through With Chemo!!!!!!

Praise God Abby is through with chemo! We got great results from her scans today. These are pictures of us eating a cake from her nurses & doctor at Children's. They have been so sweet to us. Thanks to everyone reading this who prayed for Abby this last year. It was a journey to say the least. Maybe I will blog more about this wonderful day after it has really sunken in after a while!

Welcome Home, Sadie!

I wouldn't have believed you if you told me yesterday that I would adopt a dog today. But, God blessed us with an angel who walks on all fours. After a strange turn of events that is too long to write about, we ended up at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society with the children and picked out Sadie to come live with us. She is two or three years old and half lab/half blue heeler. The blue heeler is why she appears to be grey- she really isn't that old! Her pictures that I have taken don't do her justice at all; she is beautiful and striking to meet in person. She is so patient and gentle with the children. She is housebroken- knock on wood! I am just completely in love with her already. So are Patrick and Sarah. Sarah loves brushing her hair and laying on her. Patrick has enjoyed throwing her toys for her to fetch- and the awesome part is she actually knows how to bring it back and sit it at your feet! Unfortunately Abby approaches her with the same fear that she holds for all other dogs. She is interested in her, but when Sadie gets too close, Abby screams bloody murder. Sadie, I am sure, wonders what in the world is wrong with her!

Sadie was the perfect dog choice for us- I knew we did not need a puppy or a male or a dominant personality. I am so looking forward to growing our relationship with her and all the fun times we will have together. They told us that she is overweight so she is going to start running with Jason. You know it will be too hard for me to hold back on the treats! Whenever y'all are looking for a new pet, please look at a shelter. They have amazing pets who have so much love to give. And it is so economical too: they charge only $75 for dogs over 6 months and that includes all their vaccinations, spaying or neutering, and now they do the microchip locator & include a year service for that. After spending one afternoon with Sadie in our family, she is worth so much more than that $75; she is already priceless.
